DIY Face Mask

Hey guys! Today I have a recipe for a DIY acne face mask. Although this mask is primarily for acne, it is also great for your skin in general so anyone can use it! Down below I have a slide show that will show you how everything looks and I will also be including instructions. It is a simple face mask; there are only a few ingredients and they each contain many vitamins, minerals, proteins, antioxidants, and much more that is extremely beneficial to our skin. Enjoy having beautiful, clear, and smooth skin after using this face mask!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • 1 tsp milk

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Steps:

  1. First pour in your yeast into the milk.
  2. Then place it anywhere in your house where there is sunlight and leave it there for 30 min. You will know that it has been enough time once the yeast/milk combo gets bubbly like the image above (in the slideshow).
  3.  Once the yeast is bubbly, pour the honey and yeast/ milk combo in the yogurt.
  4.  Stir it all together and apply on a clean face.
  5.  Leave the mask on your face for  15 min.
  6.  Wash off and moisturize with any moisturizer.

Thanks to Followers!!

This is my 101 st post and I wanted to thank everyone who has been following me the past year! When I started this blog I never imagined it would reach such a wide audience and that I would get so much positive feedback. I was honestly afraid that I would get some hate mail for unknown reasons (as many bloggers do), but I didn’t! Instead I got the nicest and most positive group of followers and readers that I could possibly ask for! So I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone,  have a great time if you are on Spring Break right now! Here’s a picture of where I wish I was right now, comment where you wish you could go on vacation/ where you are vacationing!

Is Acetone Bad for Your Nails?

The answer is YES! I’ve always had really bad nails, they would break and chip all the time which made it really for me to keep a nice manicure. At first I thought my nails were weak because of bad nutrition, I thought maybe I wasn’t consuming enough dairy or vitamins. So I changed up my diet and nothing changed, so I thought maybe the problem was that my nail polishes were ruining my nails, after all nail polish does have a lot of chemicals and a toxic smell! I wasn’t going to give up painting my nails so I switched to organic nail polishes but my nails still remained the same.

It finally hit me that my nail polish remover was the problem when I was removing shellac and it left my fingers white and nails completely dry, rough, and broken. So I did my research and found out that acetone really is horrible for nails, so I switched to oil based removers and ever since then my nails are 100 times stronger!

I know acetone removes nail polish much easier than non-acetone nail polish removers but unfortunately it is such a strong solvent that it not only removes your nail polish but also much of the important natural oils on your nail bed. That dehydrates your nails causing them to break and chip much more. It is not recommended for regular use and especially not recommended for people with already dry nail beds (me)! Although I keep a bottle for occasional use, for those really tough colors (black and dark purple) and to remove shellac. Sadly non-acetone nail polish removers just won’t cut it for those.

Non-acetone use solvents that are much more gentle and usually contain some sort of moisturizer too to help with the dehydration problem. So if you have been having the same problems as I, I strongly suggest that you try using a non-acetone remover for a few weeks. Most brands come with both options and the price is pretty similar, so go on and try it out!

Winter ways to burn fat !

The following is a list of easy things you can do with your family or friends. So that you don’t feel guilty after indulging some hot cocoa with marshmallows and other fattening desserts (apple pie is one of my favorites:)!

Shoveling Snow: The chore we all hate, one of the worst things about snow but it will give you a hell of a good workout! Feel free to skip your workout if you shovel for longer than 15 min. As it is a great cardio workout but even more so, it will work every single muscle in your upper body!

Snowball fights: Running around in the snow, ducking, jumping and throwing snowballs gives you crazy calorie burn. Approximately 350 calories per hour!

Snowman building: Believe it or not this actually a great exercise! All that bending, rolling snowballs, and lifting can help you burn an extra 300 calories per hour!

Sledding: When going down a hill on your sled, you use many muscle groups such as your core to keep your balance so that you don’t fall (right away at least). Now the part that makes sledding a bit less fun; going back up the hill! Yes, that is the part we all dread when sledding, we spend 10 sec getting down the hill but five minutes getting up the hill. Unfair. But at least we can look on the bright side, going up a hill while holding and sled in the cold = lots of calorie burning! Precisely, around 240 per 30 min!

Skating: Get your skates and get your cardio on! Don’t have skates? Many ice rinks rent out skates for cheap so that everyone can skate when they like! Skating is great cardio but is also great for building glute muscles because you are constantly in a bit of a squat. It even works your core because it has to keep you balanced, so if you are especially clumsy (like me) you will burn even more calories! Always think about the bright side of things!

I hope you enjoy these ideas and remember, always think about the bright side! Even if its dark outside 😉 Also, did anyone else notice that all these activities start with the letter S?

John Frieda Controlled Lightening Spray on Brown Hair Review

About a year ago, I had went to the hairdressers to ombre my hair. The hairdresser refused to use bleach on my hair so I ended up leaving the salon with a color I definitely did not want! Luckily there was a smooth transition so at least I didn’t have to worry about that! But I really hated the color so I was determined to find a cheap way to lighten  the color. I ended up purchasing the John Frieda Controlled Lightening Spray even though the instructions strictly said the it was for natural blondes only and I was naturally a brunette… oh well it worked out. It was $14 at a Shopper’s Drug mart, so it was a tiny bit more expensive than some other hair lightening products, but I heard great things about i so I decided the extra few dollars were worth it, and it still cost way less than getting your hair done again by a professional.

How to Get Rid of Dry Winter Skin, part 2!

Every time Winter rolls in, I know that I`m about to have a battle with my skin! It always gets really dry and flaky, which not only looks bad but it also makes putting face make-up on almost impossible and it also itches like crazy! Although this year I think I finally got it right! Here are a few tips on how to keep your face moisturized!

Here are a few reasons why your face may be so dry.

  • Your daily cleanser
  • Washing your hands too much
  • The dry winter air
  • The winter wind
  • Your acne creams

Since there are so many solutions to these problems, I`m going to make this a two part series, the solutions and explanations to the first two points is already post here!

The dry winter air + the wind

I put these two together because it all really comes to the same thing; the weather! If it is cold and windy outside that will certainly give you dry skin. That is because the cold air drys out your face because the air is dry too and there isn`t humidity in the air. The harsh wind is also bad for your face, leaving your face extremely dry in the winter! So dry that your normal moisturizer may not even be enough!

So my suggestion is that you use a light exfoliant first to get rid of the pieces that are flaky, then take a warm shower right after and put on your most moisturizing cream. The humidity that you created in the shower + the moisturizing cream should be enough for your face to recover from the exfoliating. Also, keep your moisturizing cream beside your bed so that you won`t forget to put it on before bed and in the morning. One more tip is to not only slather the cream on your face but to rub it in, pretend that you are massaging your face so that the cream will get thoroughly absorbed by your face.

Your acne creams

The way that acne creams work, is that they dry out your face by absorbing all the dirt and stuff that clogs your pores. It also dehydrates your skin to make the pimple smaller, this is why many people suggest putting toothpaste on your acne to shrink pimples, because it is extremely dehydrating! It does help your acne problems but will unfortunately completely dry up your face in the winter time, giving you skin so flaky that your foundation crusts up.

So to solve this problem, try to use a moisturizing face mask at least 2 times a week. Also include moisturizer in your morning and bedtime routine even if you have a load of other products. It would be ideal to stop using the acne creams for a while to let your face get it`s natural oils back but I know how bad acne can get and why some people may not want to stop, so instead of getting rid of acne creams, go to a pharmacist instead of a drugstore and specifically ask them if they have any acne creams that are better for your skin. As for the foundation problem, try using a beauty blender instead of your fingers and apply the foundation by patting it in your skin so that all the pores are covered with foundation. Do NOT rub your face or apply it side to side because that will make the application 100 times worse, it will cause your skin to get even more flaky.

I hope some of these tips help you get glowing skin in the winter time, let me know if they help 🙂

How to Get Rid of Dry Winter Skin!

Since there are so many solutions to these problems, I`m going to make this a two part series, so make sure to check the blog for the last three explanations and solutions of the list above!

Your Daily Cleanser

This is something that I have been doing wrong for so long, and changing it up made all the difference! Cleansers are known to dry up your face becuase that is how getting rid of all that dirt and oil usually works, so its great for people with really oily skin, but for anyone else it will make your skin flake! So, from now on when you are looking for cleansers, don`t look for cleansers that claim they will make you acne disappear, really nice smelling cleansers, or cleansers with the little exfoliating balls in them. You see, anything with fragrance drys out your skin because the chemicals behind the scent are usually drying. That`s why even though I LOVE my Body Shop lotions that smell like heaven, I try not to use them as often as my other more organic and non-smelling lotions because I know that they do not moisturize as well. Also, stray away from any exfoliants for a daily routine in the Winter time. It is good to exfoliate every once in a while to get rid of the top layer of dry skin, but doing it daily will be too rough on your skin and leave it even dryer than when you started!

With all that being said, what you should look for a cleanser to say on its label is things like moisturize, daily, and especially labels that specifically say that they do not dry out your skin. After using a cleanser, use an extra rich moisturizer right after. To make sure your body absorbs most of the moisturizer, put it on right when you get out of the shower because your pores will be open then.

Washing Your Hands Too Often

This may comes as a surprise to some, but washing your hands religiously is actually not so great for you! If you wash your hands too often, you will most definitely get extremely dry hands. So many people over wash their hands an dcombined with the winter climate it leaves your hands red and flaky. So try not to wash your hands more than 5 times a day, also make sure to always dry your hands fully! Your hands pick up more gedrms when they are wet and the wetness also dries them out. Another thing you could do is to keep a bottle of lotion beside your sink and always apply it after drying your hands.

Stay tuned for the next post in this series! I also started a new fitness routine and was wondering if you guys would like a daily journal about what workouts I did and other fitness related tips, so if that sounds like something that would interest you, then please let me know in the comments!

Mis-fit Review

I know many people made a New Years resolution to get fit, and this is a great way to reach your goal. Last year I got a Misfit shine for my birthday, I’ve been using it for almost a year now so it’s a great time for me to write a review about it now. In case you don’t know what a Misfit shine is, it is a fitness watch. A more popular fitness watch you may have heard of is the fit-bit, the fit-bit was actually what I was planning to get but after lots of research I found the Misfit shine which was less expensive and had more neat features than the Fitbit.
